Overview of Skoda Rapid

Skoda India has launched the much-awaited C+ segment sedan ‘Rapid’, which will be manufactured in the same plant (Chakan, Pune) where Vento is also manufactured. Skoda Rapid is based on the platform of Vento and shares most of the parts with it including the engine, gearbox and suspension. Initially, it was expected that it will be sold as Rapid, then there were rumours that it will be christened 'Lauretta' but Skoda Auto India has again surprised everybody that finally their all-new entry level sedan will be sold as 'Rapid' in India. It is powered by same petrol and diesel engine which are doing duty under the hood ofVolkswagen Vento. Skoda Auto recently changed the variant names of Fabia and Laura (Classic to Active and Ambiente to Ambition); Rapid will also bears new variant name: Rapid Active, Rapid Ambition and Rapid Elegance. Skoda Rapid gets design cues from the Skoda Fabia and Volkswagen Vento, it was expected that it will be based on the MissionL design concept displayed the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show, but to keep the costs down Skoda Auto has kept the design very basic and familiar. It will compete with the likes of Honda City, Volkswagen Vento, New Hyundai Verna, New Ford Fiesta, Chevrolet Aveo, Fiat Linea and Tata Indigo Manza.

Design and Interiors of Skoda Rapid

Skoda Rapid is based on the platform of Vento and shares most of the parts with it including the doors, windows and 90 percent of the interiors are same. Previously it was expected that it will feature latest design philosophy of Skoda Auto, which the company displayed at the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show (MissonL Concept). The front is quite familiar featuring same style for the grille and headlamps like we have seen on Skoda Fabia. The side profile is similar to the Vento but the rear is altogether different with new design for boot and tail lamps. Update: Mahindra Launches Entry Level Scorpio EX

Mahindra India has launched a new variant of its popular sports utility vehicle Scorpio. The new variant "EX" is the entry level Scorpio with a price tag of 7.21 lakh rupees. It is powered by a less powerful diesel engine which generates maximum power of 75 Bhp with maximum torque of 220 Nm. Mahindra ScorpioEX is available in four attractive shades: Rocky Beige, Diamond White, Fiery Black and Mist Silver. As oer ARAI the Scorpio EX will return fuel efficieny of 14kmpl and it can attain the speed of 60 kph in just 11.2 seconds.

Scorpio's interiors look quite modern with a nicely rounded and organic-looking dashboard with large buttons and knobs. The front seats are pretty comfortable and offer the best lower back support. The Scorpio's chassis is extremely rigid and stiff and you don't get any rattles. The suspension is very supple and in city traffic or at low speeds, it glides over the road, the soft suspension working noiselessly to filter out the bumps. Mahindra has been working on the Scorpio almost constantly and last time they launched it with m-Hawk engine that makes use of 2nd generation Bosch common rail injection system with solenoid injectors. The 4 cylinder, m-Hawk features VGT develops 290 Nm of torque in a wide range of 1600-2800rpm. The VGT will help to eliminate turbo lag. It develops 120 bhp and can reach 60kmph from zero in just 5.7 seconds. All this is possible because the light weight mHawk engine, with its all-aluminium cylinder heads is tuned for power. Turbochargers feed concentrated gusts of wind into a Variable Geometry Turbine, a simple yet cunning device that partially closes to trap the air inside at high pressures. This generates tremendous torque even at low speeds. A decrease in gross weight, coupled with a reduction in base engine friction, ensures that parasitic losses of power are seriously lowered and acceleration gets even better. The sporty bonnet scoop provides a direct passage for air to rush into the mHawk’s new top-mounted intercooler. The intercooler, in turn, directs this air into passages to optimise engine cooling. The reduced mass of the m-Hawk will also help in improvement of dynamics, the m-Hawk engine is built from aluminium alloy and hence it is 60kg lighter than the 2.6L CRDe engine.

New 2012 Innova is available with two engine options - The 2.0 litre 4-cylinder fuel injected petrol engine, featuring the VVT-i technology & the more popular engine option - the 2.5 litres 4 cylinder turbocharged common rail direct injection diesel. Both mated to 5-speed manual transmission. The Innova doesn't feel like a compromise at all, it doesn't feel like those split personalities we encounter so often with cars in India. The Innova rides on a rigid tubular section chassis. It uses double wishbones with coil springs up front and the rear uses a non-independent suspension, with four links and a lateral rod with coil springs.

The engine seems very relaxed and composed even at speeds just above 1300rpm and the torque seems relentless, all the way to 4500rpm, beyond which you do get a feeling of driving a diesel. Noise and vibrations associated with diesels seem to be from a bygone era, as far as this engine is concerned.The transmission is very well designed and is very capable of using the power of this diesel quite well.

The gearshift is surprisingly short throw and the positioning of the shifter couldn't have been better. This car is capable of cruising with much composure, even at speeds exceeding 120Kph. The torquey engine also means that you need not shift too many times during your city runs. Toyota has gone about their plan by making sure that components are either localized or manufactured in large numbers, both of which result in increased profits without any compromise on quality.

Interiors & Features of 2012 New Toyota Innova

The Interiors of top model comes with faux wood finish on the centre console and the seats are fabric which feel very comfortable, thanks to the good lumbar and under thigh support. A very thoughtful feature is the adjustable seat at the back, which can move back and forth. This feature can maximize rear seat space, especially if you are regularly driven around.

Pockets integrated into the seats form perfect recesses for the seat belts and their clips to be tucked away. The Plastics used are of very high quality and will most definitely keep rattles at bay. Design & Styling of Nissan Micra

As seen in lot of renderings the 4th generation model of Micra is completely different from the 3rd generation model. As far as design is concerned the New Nissan Micra can be termed cute and smart with oval shaped headlamps and small clear lens tail lamps. Retaining its compact dimensions, the new car is slightly longer and marginally lower, while its longer wheelbase enables a ‘wheels-at-each-corner’ stance, the main reason behind the Nissan Micra’s roomier interior. The bonnet is short with a bulge/crease in centre. The front grille has a horizontal chrome strip in centre to give it a more upmarket look. The front bumper of Micra has a large air dam in centre which is flanked by clear lens round shaped fog lights on both sides.

The top models features chrome ring outside the front fog lamps. The rear design of Micra has been kept quite simple and balanced by Nissan India. It features small clear lens tail lamps with integrated turn indicators and reverse lights. The top models also features rear spoiler with integrated third stop light in it. Update: Nissan Micra Diesel Launched

Nissan Motor India today (10th December) launched the diesel variant of its small car Micra priced between Rs 5.85 lakh and Rs 6.34 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai). Bookings of Nissan Micra Diesel are open and it is available in two variants - XV & XV Premium. Claimed Fuel Efficiency is 23 kmpl. Customers can book the diesel Micra for an initial booking amount of Rs 50,000 through all 20 Nissan dealerships across India. The company is also aggressively ramping up their sales and service network.

Speaking on the occasion, Kiminobu Tokuyama, MD & CEO, Nissan Motor India says, “The success of petrol variant of Micra in the domestic market has given us huge confidence to introduce diesel variant within six months from the launch of petrol version. We are confident that the diesel-powered Micra would fulfill the discerning needs of Indian Customers.” The Micra diesel will be rolled out from Nissan’s manufacturing plant at Oragadam, near Chennai. In the first five months, Nissan managed to sell 4,500 units of the petrol hatch.
